1. CREATE A DEN
This is a great way to give the lovely little ones their own zone. Scatter pillows and blankets for a cosy and comfortable space (great for nap time!). Books and toys are essential.
2. (SUGER FREE) SWEETS TABLE
Now we all love a sweetie, but you don’t want to fuel the little monsters with loads of sugar! Sweetie tables go down really well at weddings, and can help with rumbly tummies. There are loads of great sugar free/minimal ‘E’ sweets and chocolates on the market these days, so you can still have you quirky pick’n’mix without feeling too guilty.
3. COLOURING IN AT THE BREAKFAST TABLE
No brainer! Whilst the parents enjoy their delicious meal, keep the kids entertained with colouring in books, word searches, spot the difference… you get the idea.
4. BALOON MODELLER
Brilliant way to keep the kids engaged, and a lovely way for them to all have something to take home. You would probably only need the modeller for an hour, so relatively inexpensive as well.
This one is great for us big kids too! Who doesn’t love a bit of magic on their wedding day?! It doesn’t have to be a ‘magic show’, you could have card tricks circulating your champagne reception, or as guests walk into the reception venue.
6. OUTDOOR GAMES
Great for summer weddings! As much as we love them, you don’t always want the little ones running around inside. Having games outside is a fantastic way to keep the kids on the lawn. You could set up bowls, a basketball hoop, football goals (if you have enough space), hoopla rings, even a bouncy castle!
7. MOVIE ROOM
Every kids dream. You might not have a ‘spare room’ in your venue, but you could be brave and use a corner?
8. GOODIE BAG
Watch the jealousy in the adult’s eyes as they watch you hand out goody bags with nostalgia. We all remember how awesome goody bags were as a child – stickers, small toys, colouring pencils and paper, glow sticks for when it gets dark… get creative!
9. PHOTO BOOTH
Don’t be fooled, this is as much for the adults as it is for the kids! Photo booths are great fun at weddings, and yes, they have been done before – but there’s a reason everyone wants them. THEY’RE AWESOME! Dress up box is essential, the sillier the props, the better. Guaranteed to be full all day! Why not stick a copy of your photos in your guest book so you have a record of all the silliness. (Can be used for bribes until the end of time)
10. PROFESSIONAL MINDER
If all else fails, get the professionals in! There are tons of child-minders who specialise in wedding entertainment. The little ones are looked after whilst having loads of fun, and their parents will be thanking you for years!
