We absolutely loved this spring celebration of love!
Gate Street Barn is a beautiful wedding venue hidden in the stunning Surrey Hills… not too far from where us guys met at the Academy of Contemporary Music where our 10 year friendship started, and subsequently the birthplace of Entrée, so love was in the air for us before we arrived. (I know, cute right?)

It has that charming rustic feel, but the entire venue is finished to a high modern standard. Think high ceilings, big beams and fresh cream paint.
The gardens were in full bloom and Kate and Jonathan were really lucky with the weather – no April showers in sight!

It’s always nice to arrive to the bellowing sound of laughter from the speeches, and a good indicator that the dancefloor was going to be packed later on – and we weren’t wrong!

With set up complete, we were really looking forward to playing the first dance. Kate and Jonathon’s choice of ‘I Like Me Better When I’m With You’ by Lauv wasn’t something we had in our repertoire so were able to rearrange it and send them a video of our version before the big day. It’s always nice to hear the bride and groom are happy with our rearrangement of songs, especially for their first dance. It’s a huge responsibility that we take great pride in being a part of.

As chance would have it, I went to high school with the videographer! The world is such a small place sometimes. I love that about weddings, even if you think you don’t know any of the guests there will always be one! They call it the ‘Six Degrees of Separation’ – the idea that all people are six, or fewer, social connections away. Anyway, thins rang true at this wedding and bumping into Ashleigh was lovely. Side note, check out ashvideography.com if you know anyone getting married who wants a truly sensitive and beautiful account. She has way of capturing the little gazes and moments most videographers miss, not to mention the super high quality of her work.

Heather & Tim - 25th May 2019

Tournerbury Woods Estate, Hayling Island

One of the best things about being a musician is being a part of someone you love’s wedding day. We were lucky enough to be asked to play at my friend’s wedding, Heather and Tim. They had been together for 14 years (we think) before tying the knot so it was always going to be a very emotional and special day, and long awaited for all their friends and family.

Being music lovers, they wanted live music throughout the day. Myself and Joe played music before they headed down the aisle together, while Tim eagerly awaited the arrival of Heather and her fabulous bridesmaids. Being the spiritual couple they are, Tim and Heather chose a humanist ceremony which was utterly beautiful. I loved the sentiment of them both walking down the aisle together towards their future as married couple, rather than Heather being ‘given away.’ There were many teary eyes (and burnt foreheads as it was an absolute scorcher of a day) in the ceremony.
The ceremony itself was carried out by an awesome celebrator. It was clear the officiator had spent time with them as it felt so personal, with anecdotes of how they met and and places they’d been together.

As they waked out as a married couple, we played them out and then during the drinks reception overlooking the water in Tournerbury (which was like something out of a postcard – an absolutely perfect scene!) After our soulful summer set on the grass, which at times turned into a happy singalong, we headed inside to set up for our 7 piece set.

We always love it when people ask for the horns section too. It’s so much fun to play with sax and trumpet and it really adds another level to the sound and performance. Especially when the first dance was Incognito’s ‘Always There.’ It was probably the most fun we’d had playing a first dance… and why not have a disco tune! It got everybody up on the dancefloor and set the mood for a party.

The whole day was gorgeous. The grounds were idyllic, the food was incredible – the most delicious spread of salads, bowls of gorgeous veg with dressings, fresh fish and a variety of meat – and everyone danced and talked and laughed throughout the day.

My favourite thing that Heather and Tim did to the decoration of the room was the potted plants that were on the tables and sat hanging beams from the ceiling. They were all green, some herbs which gave a wonderful smell, some ivy, some small evergreen plants. Everyone was encouraged to take a pot home which I thought was a charming wedding flavour.

Everybody left smiling, and with aching feet a very successful wedding indeed.
